Strega Byte S.r.l. is an innovative startup founded in Benevento on 6 October 2026. We design and build proprietary high-tech products, digital or combining hardware and software, wherever cybersecurity and artificial intelligence can make working life simpler.
Our articles of association commit us to building proprietary products: not consultancy, not made-to-order projects. Products that are installed, used and improved, digital or combining hardware and software, with only the services needed to make them work well: installation, support, training.
We devote a significant share of our resources to research and development, including with universities, research centres and companies.
For centuries Benevento has been the city of witches: the janare of folk tradition, the great walnut tree on the banks of the Sabato river, the whispered formulas. When we chose our name, there was no doubt.
A byte is the smallest unit of information that counts. A strega, Italian for witch, is someone who knows spells. Strega Byte casts good spells: the protective kind.
Benevento tradition says that to keep the janare (the local witches) away, a broom behind the door was enough, or a little pile of salt on the threshold: before coming in, the witch had to count every single bristle. And dawn would find her still there, counting.
Strega Defence is our broom behind the door: it examines every connection, one by one, and whoever is not allowed stays outside.
According to one theory about its origin, the word "janara" comes from the Latin ianua, door: the witch who slipped into houses through cracks and keyholes.
Intruders still look for a door left ajar. Doors are our trade: the network kind.
"Ointment, ointment, carry me to the walnut tree of Benevento, over water and over wind": with this formula, legend says, the witches flew to the great walnut tree on the banks of the Sabato river.
Our spell is more modest, but it works over fibre and over Wi-Fi.
